Motorcycle Fuel Efficiency in Puget Sound

Thank you Eagle Leather for this great information.  I love riding motorcycles around the Puget Sound Region while I'm touring and previewing properties for my clients.  some of these bikes listed are big enough to have sidecars so they could be very efficient commuter vehicles.

Motorcycle Fuel Efficiency
The Royal Enfield tops this list

As we referenced in our April 16th newsletter, the EPA is currently lobbying to have 75% of all motorcycles run on clean diesel fuel by 2017, with 100 mpg coming “quicker than you think.” Most manufacturers are less than pleased with the EPA push, but some are already putting out motorcycles that already earn anywhere from 60-90 mpg.

Gas prices are high at the pump, and there doesn’t seem to be any relief in sight. A vast majority of prospective motorcycle buyers, especially first-timers, cite fuel efficiency as the #1 reason for trading in their car or truck for a bike. Even the worst gas guzzling motorcycles still get better mpg than the most fuel efficient cars and trucks.

With advances in engine technology, fuel-injection technology, and tire technology, some bikes are becoming really efficient… we’re talking about 60+ mpg. Let’s take a look at ten of the best fuel efficient motorcycles:

        1. Honda NC700X – delivers up to 64 mpg and some owners are reporting even higher.

        2. Honda CRF250L – giving riders a reported 73 mpg according to American Honda.

        3. BMW F650GS – a larger street bike with little-bike mileage, a reported 63 mpg.

        4. Yamaha V Star 1300 – this touring bike has a big footprint, but a small appetite for fuel - 78 mpg.

        5. Suzuki TU250X – earning nearly 80 mpg according to some reports.

        6. Kawasaki Ninja 250R – a smaller version of the popular Ninja racer with a reported 77 mpg.

        7. Kawasaki KLX250S – this dual-sport bike performs at 70 mpg.

        8. Honda CMX250C – popular with younger and female riders, this puppy gets 84 mpg.

        9. Royal Enfield – the 250cc single-cylinder bike gets a reported 85 mpg, the highest on this list.

      10. Suzuki DR200SE – good both on-road and off-road, this bike gets an estimated 68 mpg.

If fuel efficiency is at the top of your list of motorcycle “must haves,” you might want to give one from the list above a try!
